SEMI: In the third quarter, the global semiconductor equipment shipment amount increased by 7% year-on-year to USD 28.75 billion

Recently, the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) released the global semiconductor equipment shipment report, saying that the global semiconductor equipment shipment amount in the third quarter reached 28.75 billion US dollars, with a quarterly increase of 9% and an annual increase of 7%.

In terms of regions, Chinese Mainland ranked the first in semiconductor equipment shipments with US $7.78 billion in the third quarter, with a quarterly increase of nearly 20% and an annual increase of 7%. Taiwan, China, China, closely followed with US $7.28 billion, with a quarterly increase of nearly 10% but an annual decrease of about 1%.

South Korea ranked third with a scale of US $4.78 billion, with quarterly and annual decreases of more than 10%. North America ranked fourth, with sales volume of 2.61 billion US dollars, a quarterly decrease of about 1%, but an annual growth rate of 14%.

Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, mentioned that the growth of global semiconductor equipment sales in the last quarter was in line with the positive outlook for 2022. The semiconductor industry continues to expand capacity to meet long-term market demand and technological innovation in the future.

SEMI previously estimated that in 2022, the total expenditure on global wafer factory equipment will grow by about 9% compared with the previous year, reaching a new record of $99 billion. It is estimated that the global wafer factory capacity will continue to grow this year and 2023. The global wafer plant equipment market will maintain a high level of equipment procurement expenditure from 2022 to 2023, boosted by the new wafer plants and the upgrading of process technology.

According to SEMI estimation, Taiwan, China, China is estimated to be the leader of global wafer factory equipment expenditure in 2022, and the total amount is estimated to be 47% higher than last year, reaching 30 billion dollars; South Korea fell 5.5%, ranking the second with a total amount of US $22.2 billion; Chinese Mainland, the third place, is about US $20 billion.

At the same time, the expenditure on related equipment in Europe/the Middle East is expected to hit a historical record of 6.6 billion US dollars this year, because the strong demand for advanced manufacturing processes from high-performance computing (HPC) applications has driven the industry in this region to invest actively.
