Rescue Samsung? Japan once again allows photoresist to be exported to South Korea

According to the Korean media report, the Japanese government issued an export license for the photoresist again. This is the second time that the Japanese ban will be allowed to export the photoresist to South Korea, and the export license is for Japanese manufacturers who have received Samsung orders. . However, other more stringent materials such as hydrogen fluoride have not yet been approved.

On August 8, the Japanese government approved the export of EUV photoresist and etching gas for the first time, and the approved materials will be supplied to Samsung Electronics. EUV photoresist will be shipped to the Samsung Electronics EUV process Huacheng factory, and the etching gas will be shipped to the Xi'an plant in China.

The Japanese government issued an export control order to South Korea in early July, saying that from July 4th, Japanese semiconductor materials and OLED materials will restrict exports to South Korea and begin economic sanctions against South Korea.

Since then, Japan and South Korea have "mutually deleted friends." First, on August 2, the Japanese government announced in the text of the government decree on the revision of the export trade control order that "Korea" will be removed from the list of preferential countries and will take effect on the 28th of this month after its promulgation. Then, on August 12, the South Korean government also decided to remove Japan from its “white list” of exports, which will take effect in September.

Regarding the Japanese government’s re-issuance of export permits for photoresists, the report pointed out that some market participants believe that the Japanese government’s permission to issue permits on the eve of the Japanese-South Korean foreign ministers’ meeting on the outskirts of Beijing on August 21 is a positive news. ". However, industry stakeholders said that concerns remain because the Japanese government has not issued export licenses for other regulated materials such as hydrogen fluoride.

At present, the relationship between Japan and South Korea is still "subtle", and everything is subject to change.
