Gartner: Apple surpasses Samsung in 2019 to become the largest semiconductor buyer

According to foreign media reports, the latest data from authoritative research agency Gartner shows that in 2019 Apple Inc. has regained the title of the world's largest buyer of semiconductor chips.

Data show that Apple's semiconductor spending last year was 36.13 billion US dollars, surpassing Samsung and becoming the world's largest semiconductor buyer again. Samsung Electronics ranked second with semiconductor spending of US $ 33.405 billion.

Gartner said in the report that due to the decline in memory chip prices, the world's leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) reduced semiconductor spending in 2019. Among them, Apple regained the throne from Samsung, thanks to its success in wearable products, namely Apple Watch and AirPods.

In contrast, Huawei performed well in 2019, retaining its third place position. Driven by the success of the smartphone business, Huawei reduced semiconductor spending by 1.8% last year to $ 20,884 million.

In 2019, Xiaomi ranked 8th in semiconductor spending. Among the top ten companies, Xiaomi is the only OEM that has seen an increase in semiconductor spending, an increase of 1.4%, and an expenditure of $ 7.016 billion.

In addition, Dell and Lenovo ranked fourth and fifth in semiconductor spending, HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise ranked seventh and ninth, and Hon Hai ranked tenth.
