In an interview with The Indian Express, Tom Boger, Vice President of Mac Product Marketing, and Tim Millet, Vice President of Platform Architecture, discussed Apple’s latest M4-series chips used in its recent product updates. Millet noted that the company sees its custom chip development as providing a "tremendous strategic advantage."
Millet further emphasized that while Apple is not a chip company, its custom silicon eliminates the need to compromise on overall performance. Boger added, "No other platform can match our performance per watt. This is a tangible benefit for our users."
The executives credited Apple Silicon’s success to its ability to deliver high performance with minimal power consumption, leveraging three core pillars: architecture, design, and process technology. They also highlighted a fourth "secret weapon"—Apple’s collaborative design approach, where chip developers work closely with system teams and product designers to create these extraordinary processors.
Millet pointed out that competitors in the chip industry "can’t directly adopt second-generation 3nm or other state-of-the-art technologies, but we [Apple] benefit significantly from them. We believe it’s worth it, as it brings advantages to us, our products, and our customers."
