In an interview with South Korea's Chosun Ilbo on May 14, AMD Senior Vice President Dan McNamara stated that TSMC currently holds a leadership position in 2nm technology, and the company is focusing on maximizing CPU energy efficiency and performance.
“We are actively developing this processor and aim to bring it to market next year. Since TSMC is leading in 2nm, we're concentrating on creating the most efficient and highest-performing mass production solution,” McNamara explained.
When asked about the possibility of partnering with Samsung Foundry, McNamara responded, “While we’ve had a long-standing relationship with TSMC, AMD is not limited to working with any one company. As long as we can deliver the best products and services to our customers, we’re open to collaborating with any capable partner.”
In Q1 2024, AMD reported revenue of $7.44 billion (approximately RMB 53.65 billion), exceeding analysts’ expectations of $7.13 billion. Revenue from the data center segment reached $3.7 billion (around RMB 26.68 billion), accounting for roughly half of total revenue.
According to AMD’s financial report, data center revenue grew 57% year-over-year. The company plans to further expand its market penetration through the upcoming EPYC 4005 “Grado” series of mid-to-entry-level server CPUs.
McNamara emphasized AMD’s commitment to improving efficiency and performance to grow its market share.
“With every new product, AMD demonstrates a clear edge in energy efficiency and performance. We are continuously strengthening our ecosystem—hardware and software alike—to support customers in deploying AI workloads more effectively,” he added.
