South Korea Samsung may set up a semiconductor factory in Vietnam, and the two countries are expected to discuss investment issues this week


Samsung Electronics has invested heavily in Vietnam before. According to the Korean media BusinessKorea today (5), Samsung Electronics is expected to make a larger investment in Vietnam and may build a semiconductor factory.

It is reported that Vietnamese President Nguyen Chunfu recently visited South Korea. At the summit meeting with South Korean President Yin Xiyue, he mentioned the possibility of discussing the establishment of Samsung Electronics in Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation includes a large number of economic representatives, and the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on investment and other issues.

According to the report, executives from Samsung, LG, Hyundai Motor and other Korean enterprises may participate in the meeting. As Samsung Electronics is the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, it is expected that this meeting will discuss expanding investment in Vietnam.

According to the report, Vietnam may propose Li Zairong to invest in the construction of a semiconductor factory. In October 2018, November 2019 and October 2020, Vietnam proposed to Li Zairong three times to set up a semiconductor factory in Vietnam. In October 2020, Li Zairong inspected the construction site of Vietnam's Samsung R&D Center, and disclosed the investment expansion plan at a private meeting with then Prime Minister Nguyen Chunfu.

Vietnam has already had the experience of attracting American semiconductor giant Intel factories. Intel's total investment in Vietnam alone amounted to $1.5 billion. Intel has 2800 employees in Vietnam.

It is reported that Samsung has cut its smartphone production in Vietnam for the second time this year, which is in sharp contrast to the traditional peak sales season before Christmas. Samsung has been producing most smartphones in Vietnam in recent years, and the products are used to supply the North American and European markets.
