According to businesskorea, Samsung Electronics' foundry products have exploded. Earlier this year, Samsung found that its first generation of 10nm (1xnm) DRAM products had problems. This time, the foundry business was out of the package, which would affect Samsung's reputation.
These defective products are caused by the use of contaminated equipment by Samsung's 8-inch wafer line on the Koshihiko plant in Korea. A Samsung executive admitted to discovering defective products, but the process has been revised and the losses are estimated to be in the billions of won.
However, some experts said that the loss may far exceed Samsung's expectations. Industry insiders said that Samsung has not calculated the exact amount of the loss.
Samsung is investing heavily in the foundry industry and is set to become the world's number one target in the system semiconductor industry by 2030. Regardless of the final loss, Samsung's reputation will be hit hard.
