Gartner: Global semiconductor revenues totaled $474.6 billion in 2018

Gartner published the latest data on semiconductor industry revenue, saying that global semiconductor revenues totaled $474.6 billion in 2018, an increase of 12.5% from 2017, and the overall growth rate was lower than that in 2017.

The report pointed out that the memory chip is the largest category of semiconductor revenue in 2018, and the decline in semiconductor revenue growth in 2018 is due to a slowdown in memory growth to 24.9% (2017 growth rate of 61.8%). In response, Andrew Norwood, vice president of research at Gartner, said: "Despite the slowdown in growth, the memory market is still the largest semiconductor market, accounting for 34.3% of revenue, which is due to the increase in average selling prices over the course of most of 2018. However, due to oversupply, the average selling price of the memory market began to decline in the fourth quarter and will continue until 2019."

Among them, due to the booming DRAM market and 88% of revenue from memory sales, Samsung Electronics became the largest semiconductor supplier in 2018. Close behind, Intel ranked second, its semiconductor revenue increased by 12.9% compared with 2017; SK Hynix has the strongest growth among the world's top ten semiconductor suppliers, with a growth of 37.4% in 2018, ranking third.

In addition to memory, the second largest category of revenue is ASSP (a dedicated standard product designed for use in special applications), where ASSP is only 2018 due to the stagnation of the smartphone market and the continued decline in the tablet market. Growth of 5.1%.

This has also prompted leading suppliers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek to actively expand into emerging markets, including smart cars and IoT applications, but these companies will not be better than 2019 due to the impact of the smartphone market.
