Silicon Labs’ Si3404 and Si3406x products integrate an IEEE 802.3at PoE controller and a high-efficiency DC/DC converter onto a single chip. Both reduce BOM cost and board space with an on-chip TVS protection diode and DC/DC switching FET; the Si3406x also integrates the rectifier diode bridges to reduce cost and board space even further. The low-cost Si3404 comes in a tiny 4 mm x 4 mm QFN for 13 W (class 3) applications. Reaching 90% efficiency, the Si3406x family delivers 25 W (class 4) power with industry-leading on-chip integration in a small 5 mm x 5 mm QFN.
To simplify the PoE design process, Silicon Labs offers five evaluation boards (EVBs), each implementing a different power supply topology, optimized for size and efficiency. Every EVB has been tested and passed EMI emissions and is designed for customers to copy into their end products. The complete BOM, schematic, design files, and EMI test reports are included with the EVBs.
